The Bridge – Journeying Your Way Toward Success

The Bridge

When taking action in one’s own life it’s preferred to see or feel immediate gratification.  Let’s be honest, it feels good to feel relief or see results NOW.  If taking action and doing something positive, we deserve to see results, right?  While this has sadly become our society’s existence, the norm, and a way of life in the United States, this type of practice does not teach us true discipline and well-earned gratification.

Act Now, Feel Good Later– When setting and working to attain goals, what if we shift our mindset from wanting to see gratification in the here and now to the true act of discipline in slowly working our way closer to achieving our goals, one step at a time.  It’s so easy to lose momentum in working toward achieving a goal because we expect results without taking much action.

Think about the structure of a bridge.  It can take years to design and build.  It requires precision in the exact calculation and physics, the materials and the elasticity and strength.  If a bridge was built overnight it would most likely collapse.  The foundation on both sides of the bridge may not be strong enough to support the middle section, the connection, the path from one side to the other.  Think about this as it relates to working toward your goals.  While they may not necessarily take years to attain and reach, sometimes the journey will bring you closer to where you want to be.  Sometimes during the journey we achieve greater success than the original goal set.

“To embark on the journey towards your goals and dreams requires bravery. To remain on that path requires courage. The bridge that merges the two is commitment.” – Steve Maraboli
